Traditionally a New Year’s Resolution is when a person resolves to change an undesired trait or behaviour.
Is this realistic and is resolving to change this trait or behaviour going to cause more angst and stress than its worth? Research suggests that only 8% of people adhere to their resolutions.
Many people commit to give up smoking, stop drinking, lose weight, finding peace and happiness, finding their ideal partner, giving up their job or finding the perfect work place situation, move house, build their dream home, organise their finances, the list is endless but is it worth the stress and expectation?
What if you decided on some more achievable, realistic goals that incorporate a feel good factor?
What if we changed the focus from giving up an undesirable trait to committing to a few things that are good for our soul?
Lets begin with SELF LOVE and nourishing the most important person in your life – YOU!
Why not build your mental muscle?
Some great and easy resolutions may be:
A GRATITUDE LIST
On waking every morning, focus on three things you are really grateful for.
Just three and try and do this every morning on waking….
LEARN TO MEDITATE
Seriously consider meditating. This is a little more challenging but you can download some wonderful apps that give brilliant instruction on a simple 15 minute per day meditation. I have been doing this now for numerous months and can really notice a difference. It most definitely has a cumulative effect and if I ever miss a few days I really feel and see the difference.
One great app is One Giant Mind. A fifteen minute meditation each day only equates to 1% of your daily time.

PRACTICE SELF COMPASSION
Feel your feelings. Sit with whatever comes up for you. Especially the less desirable or shadow aspect of yourself. This is all part of you and needs to be felt and heard. If you feel sad, sit with this and ask yourself where this sadness may be coming from. We all have amazing intuition and your gut is usually always right, so listen more to your inner wisdom.
SET ONE WEEKLY GOAL
Do something you have never done before. Step out of your comfort zone. It could be as simple as taking a walk path you have read about but never done. I did this recently with a friend and was blown away by the beauty of the walk, which was only a 10 minute drive from my home.
