Great Things to do in May! By Debbie Snooke

Every day Events

If you happen to be near Bay View Terrace in Mosman Park on Saturday, 13 May, don’t forget to visit the annual St Hilda’s Bazaar. This annual fundraising event will not disappoint. The BEST Morning and Afternoon Tea is served (traditional scones with jam and cream and seriously delicious sandwiches). Stall vendors will be selling candles, hand made crafts, jewellery, food and clothing. All perfect gifts for Mother’s Day. The Bazaar is open from 10am till 3pm.

Fashionista’s will be out in force in their Puma Basket Heart Sneakers to view The Rise of Sneaker Culture. The FREE Exhibition is housed at The WA Art Gallery from the 13 May till 4 September. There will be 150 rare and iconic sneakers on show. The exhibition traces the humble beginnings of the sneaker from the mid 1800’s to the archives of Adidas and Converse and to the high end fashion houses of Lanvin and Prada.

Girls on Film

As the hours of daylight begin to dwindle, it’s a great time of the year to chillax on the couch and take in a fabulous film. Whether you hire it or watch it on Netflix, get set to view some seriously impressive visuals! Not to mention interviews with incredibly creative individuals.

The First Monday In May can only be described as a visual feast leaving you wanting to create your very own exhibition! It is impossible not to be inspired by the creative genius of Andrew Bolton, curator of The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museuam of Art. Bolton and his team meticulously execute the most attended fashion exhibition in the history of The Costume Institute, China: Through The Looking Glass.

Simultaneously, Anna Wintour, editor of US Vogue, organizes the star studded 2015 Met Gala fundraiser. The attention to detail, the exquisite garments and the opulent Gala verge on a fairy tale meeting an evening out in New York.

Let’s Get Physical

We all need to get our heart rates up so start by creating your very own exercise regime in the morning.

Buy a resistance band (they come in numerous sizes, lengths and strengths) and embark on your strength training programme. They are very easily stored and readily portable if you travel often.

There are 33 great resistance training exercises you can do anywhere at www. greatist.com/fitness/resistance-band-exercises.

Core training

Start Core training! It is so important to keep those 30 muscles attached to the core in good shape. This in turn ensures your upper body is strong, you have good posture, your stomach is flatter and the torso is more stabilized.

For beginners it is recommended to start with 10 minutes of core exercises, twice a day, morning and evening. For a professional core evaluation, schedule an appointment with a qualified trainer or physical therapist.

Your local gym is bound to have specialised classes.

Miscellaneous

Change your wardrobe over from summer to winter. Sounds like hard work but it’s actually fun as you recall what you have to wear for Winter.

Winter clothes are often made from amazing fabrics and are layered which tends to create some excitement.

Don’t forget to make a list of what is missing from your Winter wardrobe so you can visit your favourite stores. Next months blogs will feature what to wear for Winter 2017.

Mess

Chase down a new soup recipe from the internet or from a friend. Face it, we are all looking for easy and great things to cook and soup is such a hardy meal in the Winter.

For pure escapism, read a great book. Yes our time is precious given all the constraints put on us during the working week but don’t under estimate how good it is to curl up and just turn the pages of a book over! Find something your interested in and begin turning those pages.

We talk about Spring cleaning the house, well what about an Autumn Clean!! I don’t know too many women who enjoy cleaning bathrooms so why not have your glass shower screens and the grouting in the bathroom cleaned by your cleaning lady?

Make sure she has Enjo’s wonder product, Calcium Dissolver. It contains citric and lactic acid and does wonders removing the build up of calcium on bathroom glass and the swimming pool fence. It is definitely worth spending $29 as you will have it for years and it works!! Email Jane Bolton jebolton@bigpond.net.au for more details.
