Revisiting St George’s College

Have you ever been driving along Stirling Highway and wondered why a “Castle” is on Mounts Bay Road opposite UWA?

The “Castle” is in fact St George’s College, a residential University College for students.  The college was built in 1931 and styled on existing colleges at Cambridge and Oxford. Only males were allowed to reside in the college until 1981.

I was lucky enough to reside at St George’s from 1985 to 1986.  The incredible grounds and architecture was wasted on me at the time.  What a place St George’s is… such a fun time in your life not to mention a very carefree existence other than deadlines for assignments and exams!

This Sunday, the 29th of October, the college is opening its grounds for the annual St George’s College Spring Fair.

Wine and champagne merchants, scone bakers, Crown Jewels and fresh fruit growers from down south are a few of the vendors on the day.

Vendors are open for trade from 11am till 4pm.

It is a great family day and parking at the back of the college is easy.
