Who’s Stylish Now….. By Lisa Corser

It may be a cliché but money certainly DOES NOT BUY STYLE!!

There is no guarantee that owning a hundred pairs of shoes and a wardrobe full of clothing equates to your wardrobe exuding grace.

Given we only wear about a quarter of our wardrobe, it’s evident to me, that less is most definitely more!

One of my dear friends has just turned 80 and she would have to be one of the most stylish women I know. Like most of us, she has always had a pretty strict budget with her clothing but always dresses with such creativity and flair and consistently looks a million dollars! A well cut pair of jeans, a stunning, polished pair of boots, a crisp white shirt and a string of pearls, with a fine merino jumper thrown effortlessly over her shoulders, that’s Lesley!

It’s made me realise and appreciate it’s as much about how we put a look together and how we style an outfit and wear it, as for the outfit itself. Basically, it’s not what we wear but how we wear it!!

A striped long sleeved bandeau top. This wardrobe staple is an absolute must.

One classic three quarter length skirt.   A well cut skirt in navy or black can be accessorized many ways and always looks so chic.

A pair of ballet flats and a stunning pair of heels – classic and effortless but always looks stylish.

A leather jacket. This has probably been the most expensive item I have ever purchased and I nearly died as I handed over my credit card some 12 years ago but it has paid for itself dozens of times over by the sheer wear time I have experienced. I will keep this forever and hand it down to my daughter at some point in the distant future.

One navy or black timeless evening bag or clutch. I have a beautiful python print clutch, given as a gift from my sister and I have used it so many times. Buy a dark coloured clutch as it won’t date as quickly!

A beautifully crafted cashmere cardigan in a classic colour and style. (Think grey, navy, sand, oyster….) Great to wear with jeans and over a shirt but also looks sensational worn over your shoulders.

A simple cashmere jumper – navy, grey or oyster.

Jewels – a few classic pieces. Freshwater pearl necklace, diamond stud earrings (check out the range at Crown Jewels, so beautiful and so affordable), a cocktail ring and a stunning bracelet.

A carry all leather tote bag. Simple, in a functional colour, long straps, plenty of internal space and pockets on one internal side of bag for mobile, wallet and essentials.

Red lipstick! It’s amazing how fabulous a good vibrant lip colour can make a girl feel! If red is not your colour, go for a bold colour and watch your outfit pop!
